COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Senior Carley Rhyne has been named the Most Valuable Player of the Tennessee Tech women's golf team, and several additional team awards were announced this week by head coach Brandy Stout to wrap up the 2010-11 season.
Rhyne, who served as team captain along with senior Lindsay Spradlen, posted the low average on the team. Playing 22 rounds in nine tournaments, she had an 80.1 average with a low round of 69 during the Great Smokies Invitational. She was 21st at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships, tying for the team's top spot in the final meet of the year. A four-year player from Powell, Tenn., Rhyne had captured the Most Improved Player honor as a sophomore and junior.
"Every now and then a coach has the privilege to work with a student-athlete they will remember their entire career. Carley is one of those students," Stout said. "She is a very personable, coachable young woman, not to mention her own motivator. She will be missed but I look forward to hearing about her many successes in the future."
Five other players recevied awards including all three of the team's freshmen.
"Each one of these women go above and beyond what is asked of them and each is more than deserving of the awards they received," Stout said. "I am very blessed to have such an amazing and talented group of girls."
Katy Beth Glover, a freshman from Paris, Tenn., was named the Most Improved Player. Playing in nine tournaments, Glover finished with an 84.0 average and had a couple of Top 20 finishes during the spring. Her top showing was an 18th place individual effort at the Belmont Invitational.
Brandy VanEtten, a freshman from Jacksboro, Tenn., received the Most Dedicated Player Award. She played in seven tournament and saw 17 rounds of tournament action, posting an 84.1 stroke average.
Amanda Randolph claimed the Impact Award for the second consecutive year. A sophomore from Cookeville, Randolph played 20 rounds in nine tournaments and had an 83.4 stroke average.
The Best Putter Award went to Amber Shepherd, a freshman from Caryvile, Tenn. She finished third on the team in average at 82.2 while playing 16 rounds in seven tournaments.
Katherine Bell, a sophomore from Jackson, Tenn., who finished with the second-best average on the team at 81.5, received the Long Hitter Award. Bell was the only Golden Eagle to play in all 10 tournaments, seeing 24 rounds in competition and earning all-tournament honors with a third place individual finish at the Belmont Invitational. She tied with Rhyne for 21st place as Tech's top finishers at the OVC Championships.
