Wann leads women's team; Tech 11th at APSU tournament

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Freshman Ericka Wann delivered the team's low score Monday during the opening round of the F&M Bank Intercollegiate, and the Golden Eagles are in 11th place with one round remaining.

Wann made the run with a 43 on the front nine Monday, and sliced seven shots on the back nine to card a par 36 and finish the day with a 79, placing her in a tie for 22nd place on the individual leaderboard. She was the lone Golden Eagle player to crack the Top 50 in the tournament which includes 12 teams and 17 additional individual golfers for a field of 77 players.

Murray State is in first place with a 298 and a comfortble eight-shot lead over Western Kentucky (306) after the first tour of the 5,960-yard, par 72 Clarksville Country Club.  Jacksonville State (311) is third, followed by Troy (313) and Belmont  (314) in the Top Five.

Tech is in 11th place with a 337 team total and has some ground to make up if the Golden Eagles hope to climb higher in the final standings. SIU Edwardsville is in 10th place with a 328 and a nine-shot edge on coach Brandy Stout's squad.

Senior Lindsay Spradlen was Tech's next finisher, tied for 53rd place at 84. Classmate Carley Rhyne is two shots back in 64th place, followed on the team scorecard by freshman AMber Shepherd and sophomore Katherine Bell, who each posted scores of 88.

Competing individually, freshman Katy Beth Glover is in 30th place with an 80, while Amanda Randolph carded an 84 and is tied for 53rd.
