Golden Eagles host Southern Miss on Tuesday

COOKEVILLE, Tenn.—After their first road adventure, the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team (2-3) returns home for one more home game before they head out on a four-day road trip. The Golden Eagles will square off against Southern Miss (3-2) on Tuesday in a 6 p.m. contest at the Eblen Center. 

Tech has won their last two home matches, however, in their last showing at Northern Kentucky, the Golden Eagles came up slow falling 88-62 to the Norse. 

Senior, Samaria Howard continues to serve as the leading scorer for the Tech team. Howard has racked up 95 points on the season, averaging 19 points a game, 39.3-percent from the field and 89.3-percent from the line. In the Golden Eagle's last matchup at Northern Kentucky, Howard led the team with 16 points hitting 7-of-21 and 2-of-2 from the line. 

Tech junior, Hannah Goolsby also serves as a pivotal player on the Golden Eagle squad. Thus far this season, Goolsby has connected on 15-of-33 from the three-point range and 22-of-48 from the field, averaging 13 points per game. 

As a team, Tech averages 38-percent from the field, 27.6-percent from the three-point range, and 69.3-precent from the line. 

Southern Miss is traveling to Cookeville on a two-game winning streak, recently defeating Mississippi Valley 71-55 and Samford 56-48. The Lady Eagles are led by Jerontay Clemons who has posted 48 points on the season, averaging 12 points a game, 35.3-percent from the field and 75-percent from the line. 

Caitlin Jenkins is another Southern Miss player to watch. Jenkins averages 44.7-percent from the field and has totaled 32 rebounds thus far this season while putting up seven blocks. 

As a team, the Lady Eagles average 34.3-percent from the field, 26.1-percent from the three-point range, and 66.7-percent from the line. 

This will be the first time that Tech and Southern Miss have met in 29 years, with the Golden Eagles winning in the 1986-87 season, 78-66, over the Lady Eagles. Tech and Southern Miss have competed against each other on three other occasions, their first being in the 1978-79 season, where the Lady Eagles downed the Golden Eagles 72-59.
