Golden Eagles host Mercer in 6 p.m. contest

COOKEVILLE, Tenn.—The Tennessee Tech women's basketball team (0-1, 0-0 OVC) are back in action after one days rest to take on Mercer (1-0) tonight at the Eblen Center in a 6 p.m. contest. 

On Saturday, the Golden Eagles opened their 2015-16 campaign against Arkansas State where they suffered a 77-55 defeat. Newcomers Takisha Jordan and Alliyah Smith made waves for the Golden Eagles in the matchup. Jordan hit a team-high 12 points (tied with senior, Samaria Howard) for Tech, going 4-for-12 from the field and connecting on 4-of-6 at the line. Jordan also had a solid five rebounds while fathering two steals and one block in the game. Smith had a solid game defensively for the Golden Eagles, leading the Tech team with 9 rebounds and connecting on 4-of-8 boards to pick up nine points for the squad.

As a team, the Golden Eagles averaged 28.3-percent from the field, while hitting a solid 33.3-percent from the 3-point range. 

Mercer opened their 2015-16 season against Coastal Georgia where they topped the Mariners 87-48. Linnea Rosendal led Mercer in the matchup, scoring 17 points for the Bears while going 6-10 from the field and 5-9 from the 3-point range. Sophomore, Kahlia Lawrence picked up her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while teammates KeKe Calloway and Kayla Potts each added 10-points to a strong Mercer showing. 

The Golden Eagles hold the 4-2 series advantage over the Bears. The first showing between the two teams happening in the 1975-76 season, where Tech beat Mercer 87-67, and the last taking place last season when the Bears defeated the Golden Eagles on their home turf 73-67.
