Purple Palooza features trick-or-treating, costume contests and more Tuesday night

SPOOOKVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech's fourth annual Purple Palooza -- a night filled with fun for the whole family featuring trick-or-treating, costume contests and Golden Eagle basketball -- is all set for Tuesday night (Oct. 27) in Eblen Center.

Community organizations and student groups are planning to decorate booths, wear costumes and hand out treats to youngsters for the hour prior to the on-floor activities, beginning at 6 p.m. Season ticket holders are invited to the Eagles Nest, while Tech students will get free pizza and Pepsi on the concourse.

At 6:30, the Cheer and Dance teams will perform, and the teams will take the floor to begin warmups at 6:45 p.m.

The main event will get underway at 7 p.m., with introductions of players on both teams. That will be followed by a unique scrimmage, with two blended teams that include both men’s and women’s players.

Perhaps the highlight of the night will be a competition between four groups of players, featuring 3-point shooting and a dunk contest.

Drawing large and enthusiastic crowds in each of the first three years, Purple Palooza is a tip-off celebration of Tennessee Tech basketball and introduction to the Golden Eagle men’s and women’s teams.

Admission is free, and all Tech basketball fans, students, faculty and staff are invited to take part in the festivities.

At times throughout the evening, winners will be announced in costume contests with prizes awarded.  Six Tech students will be involved in a completion with the winner receiving free pizza and Pepsi for a year.

The culmination of the evening is a few moments of dancing in which all fans are invited to the floor to join to the teams and spirit squads. After that, players from both teams will be available to sign autographs and meet with fans.
