COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagle softball team was picked to finish in second place in the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference softball race. The poll is conducted by the head coaches from the OVC.
“Hopefully it is a sign that other coaches in the OVC
respect our program,” head coach Tory Acheson said. “We
are working as hard as we can to try to meet the expectations that
we have set for our program.”
Jacksonville State was picked to finish first in the preseason
poll receiving eight first-place votes en route to 97 points. Tech
followed with 80 points, receiving two first-place votes. UT Martin
came in third with 78 votes, while OVC newcomer SIU Edwardsville
earned 68 points to round off the top four.
Eastern Illinois and Morehead State came in a tie for fifth
place with 63 points, with EIU receiving one first-place vote.
Rounding out the poll are Murray State (54 points), Southeast
Missouri (40 points), Eastern Kentucky (32 points), Austin Peay (16
points) and Tennessee State (14 points).
The Golden Eagles begin their 2011 season Feb. 12, as they
take part in the Georgia State Tournament in Atlanta.
