TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team capped off its weekend in the Sunshine State in impressive fashion, as the Golden Eagles claimed wins in five-of-six singles battles on their way to a 6-1 victory over Buffalo Sunday afternoon.

Fresh off a singles nod in Saturday's matchup with No. 18 Florida State, freshman Evzen Holis made it a perfect weekend with a victory in his first-ever showing in the top spot of the Tech lineup. The Brno, Czech Republic product won his clash in straight sets with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Villhelm Fridell.

Carlos Vicente joined Holis as the only Golden Eagles to go 2-0 in Tallahassee, rallying in his No. 3 affair with Matthew Johnson. After winning the first set 6-2, the TTU sophomore was upended 6-3 in the second set to force the finale, which Vicente ultimately prevailed with a 6-3 third-set win.

The Golden Eagles (2-4) soared in the bottom of the singles lineup with wins in the final three spots. Elias Grubert secured a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Valdemar Holm in the No. 4 position, while Riku Kubota picked up a 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 nod against Simon Wibler in the No. 5 get-together and Fanis Kontopoulos collected a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 win over D Giritharan in the No. 6 slot.

Rafael Tosetto was unable to make it a perfect singles performance by Tech, as the 5-foot-8 sophomore fell 6-0, 6-2 to Hao Sheng Koay in the No. 2 spot.

TTU opened the match in primed fashion behind an unblemished showing in doubles play over the Bulls (2-5) en route to an early 1-0 edge in the contest. The Tech tandem of Carlos Vicente and Evzen Holis rolled to a 6-3 victory over Hao Sheng Koay and Simon Wibler in the top matchup and the duo of Marc Mila and Rafael Tosetto pushed the Golden Eagles to the finish line with a 6-2 nod against Vilhelm Fridell and D Giritharan in the No. 3 tilt.

The No. 2 meeting between Lucca Silva and Riku Kubota and Valdemar Holm and Matthew Johnson did not finish.

The Golden Eagles will now set their sights on the club's 2020 home opener, beginning a four-match stay in Cookeville with a Saturday, Feb. 29 get-together with Kennesaw State. TTU will then close out the weekend with a Sunday, Mar. 1 affair against Chattanooga. Both matches at Tech Tennis Courts are slated to begin at noon CT and admission is free of charge.
