Golden Eagles capture pair of points in loss at No. 18 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team carded a pair of singles wins at No. 18 Florida State, but when the dust finally settled, the Seminoles prevailed with a 5-2 victory in Saturday afternoon's clash at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center.

Freshman Evzen Holis and sophomore Carlos Vicente provided the Golden Eagles (1-4) with their two points in the tilt, as the youthful duo each claimed a win toward the top of the Tech lineup. Holis came back to claim a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 nod over Loris Pourroy in the No. 2 matchup, while Vicente secured a straight-set, 7-5, 6-0, triumph against Marcus Walters in the No. 3 slot.

FSU's pair of nationally ranked singles competitors each won their respective battles, though there was some drama out of the No. 1 position. Rafael Tosetto captured a 6-4 victory in the first set, but No. 82 Alex Knaff ralied for a 6-0 win in the second set and a 6-2 nod in the third set to take the tilt. No. 104 Rana Roop Bhullar picked up a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Elias Grubert in the No. 4 battle.

The final two clashes but swung the Seminoles away, thanks to an Enzo Le Seguillon 6-4, 4-6, 3-2 (11-9) win over Riku Kubota in the No. 5 get-together and a Chase Wood 6-2, 6-4 victory against Lucca Silva in the No. 6 meeting.

Florida State (9-2) took the early lead in the match after winning the doubles point, but Tech did make some noise with a win in the No. 2 spot. The TTU tandem of Silva and Kubota tallied a 6-4 triumph against Marcus Walters and Bryn Nahrung. The Seminoles prevailed in the other two affairs behind an Alex Knaff and Loris Pourroy 6-0 win over Carlos Vicente and Evzen Holis in the top spot and a Rana Roop Bhullar and Richard Thongoana 6-4 nod against Rafael Tosetto and Marc Mila in the No. 3 position.

The Golden Eagles will conclude their stay in the Sunshine State with a Sunday meeting against Buffalo at 9 a.m. CT.
