BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team concluded its brief trip down in Alabama with a narrow 4-3 loss at UAB Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 3-2 late in the contest, the Golden Eagles (4-10) fate was sealed after falling near the bottom of the lineup. Lucca Silva was upended 6-0, 6-1 by Giovani Pasini in the No. 5 position to push the Blazers (7-5) to the victory.

Marc Mila rounded out the match with a 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 win against Tom el Safadi to pick up TTU's third point of the day.

Trailing 3-0, Tech jumped back into it with wins out of its youth toward the top of the lineup. Freshman Carlos Vicente collected a 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 victory over Daniel Janko out of the No. 2 slot, while sophomore Riku Kubota gave the Golden Eagles the lead with a 7-5, 6-1 nod against Jasper Van Kleef in the No. 3 matchup.

UAB controlled the other two singles duels with a Ramon Postolka 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Rafael Tosetto in the No. 1 battle and a Michal Lusovsky 6-3, 6-1 win against Fanis Kontopoulos in the No. 4 clash.

The Blazers seized the tilt's early momentum with the doubles point behind victories in the top two affairs. Postolka and Lusovsky carded a 6-1 win against Carlos Vicente and Gonzalo Garcia in the top spot, while Giovani Pasini and Nikolai Manchev picked up a 6-4 victory against Fanis Kontopoulos and Lucca Silva in the No. 2 position.

Wenceslao Albin and Rafael Tosetto did manage to give the Golden Eagles a nod out of the No. 3 battle with a 6-2 win against Daniel Janko and Jasper van Kleef.

Tech will have a lengthy layoff before traveling to clash with Kennesaw State on Wednesday, Mar. 20.
