COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Following a stellar weekend on the courts in Florida, senior Wenceslao Albin took home the Ohio Valley Conference's Male Tennis Athlete of the Week, the first Golden Eagle to secure a weekly honor this spring.
Albin went 2-1 during singles play as part of TTU's three-match swing in Boca Raton, Fla. The Salliquelo, Argentina native came up huge in Tech's thrilling 4-3 win over Stetson Saturday morning, collecting a three-set win over Christain Mills in the No. 5 position.
Albin was also responsible for the purple and gold's lone point in the club's 4-1 loss at Florida Atlantic, registering a straight-set win over Ignacio Garcia out of the No. 4 spot in the lineup. The All-OVC second teamer from a season ago is currently second on the squad with three singles wins in the early stages of the season.
Albin and the rest of the Golden Eagles will flock to Corpus Christi, Texas for the 53rd-straight playing of the HEB Tournament of Champions, the longest running college tournament in the nation. Tech will square off with the host Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Friday, Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. CT.
