COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – As various groups release their postseason football honors, one of Tennessee Tech's own was named as one of the top freshman players of the 2024 campaign as long snapper Turner McLaughlin was selected to Stats Perform's FCS Freshman All-America team on Wednesday.
He was one of three picks in the Big South-Ohio Valley Conference Football Association as he was joined by Southeast Missouri offensive lineman Carter Guillaume and Tennessee State linebacker Sanders Ellis.
The Tech freshman long snapper from Pensacola, Fla., was also picked as a first-team All-Big South/OVC selection when the teams were announced in late November.
McLaughlin had an incredible impact on the Golden Eagle kicking unit as Tech completed 15 of 22 field goals, 31 of 33 point-after tries and set up punter Spencer Ashby to a 37.9-yard average.
He is the first Freshman All-America for the Golden Eagles since the trio of Trevor Stephens, Kail Dava and Christian Cantrell were selected by PhilSteele.com in January 2020.
