COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – With Football Bowl and Championship Subdivision experience, the Tennessee Tech will add another young exciting coach to the staff as head coach Bobby Wilder announced the hiring of running backs coach Tyler Harman.

"I'm excited to join the Tennessee Tech family," Harman said. "I want to thank Coach (Bobby) Wilder for the opportunity to be part of a great school, program and community in Cookeville. I'm excited to build a championship-caliber program with Coach Wilder, the rest of the staff and players. Wings Up!"

Harman spent the last season at North Carolina, serving as the Tar Heels' player personnel analyst and advanced scout. In that role, he evaluated prospective high school and transfer student-athletes, handled recruiting efforts during home games and compiled advance scouting for the offense and defense.

Before that, Harman was the offensive line coach for Division III Dean College as well as an assistant offensive line coach and quality control at New Hampshire.

Harman spent a year as a video scout for Sports Info Solutions, breaking down games and creating analytics for a variety of teams, including Baylor and Colorado State and the NFL's San Francisco 49ers.

His first collegiate job was at Portland State in the FCS, starting as an assistant offensive line coach and assistant video coordinator in 2018, then adding offensive quality control, offensive GA, video coordinator and director of social media hats.

Harman was the defensive coordinator at Tigard High School, overseeing the tight ends, nickels and will linebackers during his 2012 to 2016 tenure. He started his coaching career at Southridge High School, where he coached the wide receivers and secondary for three seasons.

He played one season of college football at California Lutheran after four years of prep ball at Southridge High. Harman earned his bachelor's degree in School Health Education in 2019 from Portland State.
