COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – With 35 years of experience in production, educational outreach and management at public television station WCTE, Becky Magura will be the featured guest speaker Monday, Mar. 11 at Tennessee Tech for a presentation on women in leadership.

The event is scheduled to take place at 6:00 p.m. CT in the auditorium of Bell Hall and is open to the public.

Magura will speak to Tennessee Tech University's female student-athletes as part of the Dr. M. Dianne Murphy Leaders for Life program, a series founded by Dr. Murphy to address common challenges facing women today. Wanting to empower women and help female student-athletes build their skills to be successful not only in sports but also in leadership positions, she has provided networking and mentoring opportunities with successful female role models.

The president and CEO of WCTE, Magura holds both bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Tennessee Tech, with an emphasis in communications.  She has years of experience in television production as an on-air host, producer, and videographer. In 2006, Magura became WCTE's fourth general manager and has led the station team through the digital transition in transmission and production, as well as securing WCTE's downtown studio and offices.

She also recently served as the Past Chair of the National Educational Telecommunications Association's (NETA) Executive Board and is currently serving on the America's Public Television Stations Board of Trustees and the Cookeville/Putnam County Chamber of Commerce Board. She received the Cumberland Business Journal's Ovation Award for Community Service.

Magura believes strongly in supporting independent producers and collaborative station productions such as Live Green Tennessee. She served as the station liaison for Todd Jarrell's documentary, CRANK: Darkness on the Edge of Town, which was funded in part by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting through the Independent Television Service (ITVS) LiNCS grant.

Magura also serves as station liaison for presenting Bluegrass Underground an Emmy award winning music series on PBS and a Todd Squared Production. Additionally, Magura serves as station liaison for Jack Stoddart's independently produced series, Jammin' at Hippie Jacks, which airs nationally through NETA.

The chair of the PBS Interconnection Committee, Magura serves on the PBS Station Services Committee, Strategic Planning Advisory Group, and Working Group on Unserved Areas.
