COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- A young lineup, including four freshmen, will
represent Tennessee Tech Sunday morning when the Golden Eagle
women's golf team tees off in the Chris Banister Classic, hosted by
Jacksonville State University. The 54-hole tournament will include
10 teams playing on the Silver Lakes Golf Course layout with 18
holes each on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
"We have a very young team this year and patience will be a key
for us," said coach Polk Brown. "It will be fun to watch and see
how they handle the collegiate tournament atmosphere."
Seniors Katherine Bell and Amanda Randolph (shown in photo) will
provide leadership to the youthful TTU lineup. Joining that pair
will be four players who are all classified as freshmen, but in
varying stages of their TTU careers -- Madalyn Everts, Allison
Geer, Megan Williamson and Katya Hoffman.
Everts started out stong last fall as a true freshman, but an
injury ended her season and she was granted a medical redshirt for
the year. Geer joined the roster this fall from White County High
School and Williamson is a newcomer from Blackmon High School in
Murfreesboro. Both are true freshmen this fall. Hoffman, meanwhile,
has spent a year at Tech following graduation from Cookeville High
School, and has decided to return to golf this fall after a year
away from competition.
"The course we'll play on will be a tough course and we're in a really good field of teams," Brown said. "I'm anxious to see how our young players interact with the rest of the girls in the tournament."
Along with host Jacksonville State and the Golden Eagle women,
teams in the tourney include Northern Kentucky, Texas State, Murray
State, Middle Tennessee, Belmont, Lipscomb, Lamar and Western
Kentucky.
Results will be posted each day on TTUsports.com as they become
available.
