COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- As the leaves fall from the trees, and the smell of pumpkins is still lingering, the campus of Tennessee Tech is bustling with the excitement of homecoming, fall sports drawing to a close and basketball season just around the corner. With all the activity, it's rare to find a spare moment in the schedules of Tech student-athletes, but the Golden Eagle golf teams have spent two afternoons with the students of Jere Whitson Elementary School teaching them the fundamentals of their sport.

Head coach Polk Brown has taken the men's and women's teams to Jere Whitson on two seperate occasions. The students divided into several groups of two or three and learned how to hold, swing and carry a golf club. As the afternoon progressed, they all had a chance to chip into the grass. For some students, it was their first time even seeing a golf club, and excitement was contagious. Screams of, "I hit my ball the furthest" and "can I try again" echoed through the autumn-colored trees.

"It's great to see young kids excited about our sport," said Brown "and we love having the chance to spark interest in the Cookeville community."
