Everts cards 70, earns All-Tournament at OVC Championships

DICKSON, Tenn. -- Redshirt freshman Madalyn Everts shot a career-low 70 in the final round of the Ohio Valley Conference championship tournament on Tuesday to leap into a second-place finish. The Tennessee Tech women's golf team finished sixth in the tournament.

Everts began Tuesday's action in a tie for 14th place after two rounds. The Ooltewah, Tenn. native bogeyed the first and 18th holes, but sandwiched four birdies between them to card a 2-under-par 70 at the GreyStone Golf Club.

Her three-round total of 225 is the lowest of any Golden Eagle golfer who was named all-tournament in the history of the OVC Championship tournament. Madalyn's round of 70 is the lowest for a Tech golfer since teammate Katherine Bell shot a 69 in September, 2010.

Everts finished just two strokes back of Eastern Kentucky's Kristen Dorsey (79+70+74=223), who led the Colonels to an OVC title.

The Golden Eagles expanded their lead over Belmont on Tuesday, but were unable to catch up to fifth-place Austin Peay, finishing just six strokes behind the Governors.

While Everts paced Tech, freshman Megan Williamson finished in a tie for 24th place, carding rounds of 82, 77 and 80 on the week.

The two Tech seniors ended their careers with solid rounds as Katherine Bell and Randolph carded scores of 76. Bell finished in a tie for 30th for the tournament with a 85+83+76=244. Junior Amber Shepherd was close behind Bell, scoring 84+76+85=245.
