COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Playing in its fourth game in just three days, the Tennessee Tech men's basketball team finally saw a blemish appear on its record during its trip to the Dominican Republic. The Golden Eagles fell to the D.R. National Selection Team Friday morning, 69-67, after a desperation at the buzzer bounced out.
"I think the schedule finally started to get to us a little bit," head coach Steve Payne said. "We had some tired legs and banged up bodies out there, and it showed in a few different areas of the contest. We still had a chance to win the game at the end there. We are getting better every day and the progress is starting to show."
For the second time on the trip, junior big man Charles Jackson collected a double-double, leading the Golden Eagles with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore guards Shirmane Thomas and DeOndre Haynes posted 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Just one more game remains on the schedule for the Tech squad, a Sunday contest that, with a win, could have the Golden Eagles leaving the Dominican Republic with an impressive 4-1 mark.
