Ramsey claims first career adidas® OVC Freshman of the Week honors

By Mike Lehman, TTU Sports Information Coordinator

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Fresh off making a splash in his first career game for the Tennessee Tech men's basketball team, redshirt freshman Mason Ramsey marked another first off the checklist, garnering his initial adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week honors Monday afternoon.

Suiting up for the first time since his senior year of high school, (nearly one-and-half years), Ramsey wasted no time making an instant impact, recording a double-double off the power of 14 points and 14 rebounds in just 20 minutes of action off the bench. He pulled down nine boards on the offensive glass, giving the league no choice but to honor him as the best freshman from the first week of play.

His double-double marked the first for a Tech freshman in his first career game since 1986-87 when the program's all-team leading scorer, Earl Wise, accomplished the feat.

The Golden Eagles take on USC in Los Angeles tonight at 10 p.m. CT with the game being televised live on the Pac-12 Network.
