COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Junior College transfer Cullen Park was named one of the Ohio Valley Conference’s Co-Pitchers of the Week for his relief efforts on the hill in three of Tech’s four straight wins last week.
In his three outings, Park pitched eight total innings, picking up a win and a save as Tennessee Tech completed a perfect 4-0 week and clinched a spot in the OVC Tournament field with a three-game sweep of UT Martin. On the week, he allowed only two hits and two walks while striking out nine batters.
The junior right hander started the week by pitching the final 2.1 innings and picking up the save against Lipscomb, his third of the season. Park did not allow a hit in that game and struck out two as TTU won 12-9.
In the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader with UTM, Park pitched two innings and struck out a batter. He returned in the nightcap of the twin bill to toss 3.2 innings of relief, allowing only one hit and striking out six as he picked up the victory in the Golden Eagles 8-7, 12-inning victory.
On the season, Park leads the Tech bullpen with a 3.96 ERA in 24 appearances. He has hurled 52.1 innings for the Golden Eagles, amassing a 3-2 record and striking out a team-high 65 batters. Additionally, his opposing batting average of .228 is the lowest in the conference.
The award is the first of Park’s career and the third for Tennessee Tech’s pitching staff this season. Tristan Archer (week two) and Matt Shepherd (week four) also earned Pitcher of the Week honors this year.
Having already clinched a trip to the OVC Tournament in Jackson, the Golden Eagles will finish out the regular season at Murray State this weekend, playing a twin bill on Friday starting at 1 p.m. and capping of the series on Saturday afternoon.
