Gold bats deliver 6-4 win in series opener

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Fall ball at Tennessee Tech is in full swing, as the Golden Eagles held Game 1 of their annual Purple and Gold intersquad series Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.

The Gold half of the Golden Eagles seized control and kept it throughout the game, putting their first run on the board in the second inning after Frankie Beech singled up the middle and rounded the bases to advance to home on a sacrifice play at first base.

An unearned run for the purple bats in the top of the third tied the game, but senior Seth Edwards and sophomore Michael Morris secured the eventual win for the Gold in the bottom of the third. Edwards went yard with two men on to give his team a 4-1 lead, which Morris extended with a two-RBI single to left field, yielding the would-be game winner and putting the Gold up 6-1.

Edwards and Morris each went 1-3 on the day, while sophomore Zephan Guyear and senior Frankie Beech contributed with 2-3 in plate appearances for the Gold team.

The Purple bats made a run for it in the top of the fourth as freshman Zac Flynn stepped up in his first scrimmage with an RBI single to make the score 6-2. Sophomore Austin Wulf facilitated two unearned runs when he reached first on an error, but the three-run inning wasn't enough to push the Purple ahead.

Game two of the series will be played Thursday afternoon a 4:30 p.m. at Bush Stadium.
