Baseball back on the road to Charlotte for a two-game mid-week series

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Golden Eagle baseball team will take on the UNC-Charlotte 49ers on the road this week in a Tuesday/Wednesday mid-week series.

Tech is coming off of a 1-2 weekend against the Ohio Bobcats, having taken game one of Friday's double-header, 8-5, and then dropping game two as well as the finale on Sunday, 8-4 and 4-0. Charlotte, meanwhile, just swept a close series with Asheville, winning two games by a one run each on Friday and Saturday at home.

An Atlantic 10 opponent, the series sweep gave Charlotte a 9-2 record on the year, while Tech sits at 4-8 thus far.

Game one will feature two freshman starters, RHP Tyler Barnette for the 49ers and lefty Jacob McWhirter for the Golden Eagles. McWhirter has made one previous start for Tech and two appearances overall, striking out seven and allowing only five hits in 22 batters face. He currently sits woth a 4.26 ERA, and will toss the first pitch on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Barnette has started two games for Charlotte and carries a 1-0 record in 10.3 innings of work. He's logged eight strikeouts on the season and has an ERA of 0.84 on the season.

Wednesday's 3 p.m. game will showcase sophomore righty Nick Price (pictured) for Tech and junior right-hander Joe Yermal for the 49ers. Price will be making his third start of the season and fifth appearance overall, while Yerman will be making his second start of the season.
