COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – After opening their Ohio Valley Conference season at home this past weekend, the Golden Eagle baseball team will take to the streets again to face off against two non-conference opponents during this week's mid-week outings.
They'll start their road trip with a visit to the Bisons of Lipscomb in Nashville on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. night game.
Headed into the out of conference bouts, the Golden Eagles are led by sophomore Evan Frazier at the dish with a batting average of .390. In 16 of Tech's 25 games, he's roped 23 hits in 59 at bats, including three doubles and three home runs for 11 RBI on the season.
Representing the Atlantic Sun, the Bisons currently maintain an 11-17record on the year and are coming off of two straight losses to A-Sun rival North Florida after winning game one of the weekend series, 4-2 last Friday. The Bisons dropped the next two contests, 6-4 and 7-5 respectively, en route to their present 3-6 conference stand.
Lipscomb is led at the plate by senior transfer out of Vanderbilt, Richie Goodenow. The lefty, a Nashville native, is batting .366 in 27 games this season, having already seen 37 hits in 101 at bats and tallying 13 RBI. He has eight extra-base hits, including two long balls, and is slugging .485 on the season. In the bullpen, Goodenow has an 0-6 record in nine appearances with a 6.64 ERA, having surrendered 48 hits in 39.1 innings pitched.
Tech will be looking to extend their 33-27 lead on the series against the Bisons, who will be coming to Cookeville for the Bush Stadium match-up on May 10. The game will be available for viewing on ASunTV, while free live audio can be found here.
Following their trip to Nashville will be an out-of-state contest against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs on Wednesday, with the first pitch slated for 3:30 p.m. The game will mark just the third time that the two opponents have met, with Tech coming away with the win in both of the previous meetings.
A&M has a 4-22 record overall this season, sitting at 2-10 in the SWAC. Like Lipscomb, the Bulldogs were victorious in game one of this past weekend's series, edging Alabama State 7-6 in the first of two games played on Saturday. However, ASU rallied to blank A&M 11-0 in the second game of the double-header event and took the series, 2-1, on Sunday with a 15-5 victory.
Kency Duarte leads the Bulldogs at the plate with a .358 average, having clocked a team-high 29 hits in 81 at-bats for six RBI on the year.
The pitching rotations for all three teams have yet to be announced.
