Eagles of Boston College snag the win over Tech to round out the weekend

CONWAY, S.C. -- Boston College took the 6-1 win over the Golden Eagles to round out Tech's three-game bout in Coastal Carolina's Caravelle Resort Tournament.

The Eagles snagged an early lead in the bottom of the second inning as Tech's Nick Price (pictured) faced seven batters in that half of the inning. Four singles by Andrew Lawrence, Matt McGovern, Matt Hamlet and Matt Watson and a fielding error on Tech yielded the two runs to set a score of 2-0, which held through the seventh inning.

Austin Wulf's RBI single in the top of the seventh yielded Tech's only run of the game, as it brought pinch-runner Zach Flynn across the plate, making the score 2-1. Boston College answered, however, in the bottom of the inning after two more fielding errors put two men on base for Mike Sudol to work with. His RBI single sent Brad Zapenas home to give BC the 3-1 lead.

They continued the scoring in the eighth inning when McGovern walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Hamlet walked, and a sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third. Zapenas' double scored both, and came across the plate himself on a single by Anthony Melchionda to clinch the 6-1 win.

John Leonard got the win for the Eagles, striking out five in five innings of work, while Price was tagged with the loss for Tech. Price struck out three on the day.
