NORMAL, Ala. -- Senior right-hander Jared Dobbs and the rest of the Golden Eagle bullpen held the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M to just six hits while the Golden Eagle line-up amassed 12 runs on 12 hits and 12 walks to blank the Bulldogs, 12-0.
The Golden Eagles dominated through the first third and final third of the game, building to a 5-0 lead in three innings and tacking on seven more runs over the seventh, eighth and ninth. They were led at the plate by junior Chad Hayes with a 3-for-5 effort and sophomore Evan Frazier, who went 2-for-5 with 4 RBI. Six other Golden Eagles combined for the remaining seven hits of the game, with Michael Morris and Austin Wulf joining Frazier and Hayes in the multi-hit category with 2-for-4 showings in the batter's box.
After logging their first RBI on a walk in the first inning, the Golden Eagles put up three more in the second, two of which were walked in again, and one on a single by Zach Stephens. They took their 5-0 lead on a passed ball that scored Chad Hayes after a triple.
A&M kept the Golden Eagles at bay over the next three innings, but gave up a sacrifice fly RBI to Oberacker in the seventh, two RBI singles in the eighth to Morris and Wulf, and with two outs in the ninth, four runs on two hits and three errors to give Tech their final 12-0 lead on the game.
Alabama A&M was fueled offensively by Lama Bridges and Sanch Tucker with 2-for-3 and 2-for-4 efforts respectively, while James Brown gaver the Bulldogs their only other hit of the game.
Dobbs earned the start on the day and pitched through four, allowing just two hits and striking out three to get his first win of the 2011 season and improve to 1-0. Deon Hall was pegged with the loss for A&M, surrendering founr runs on two hits and six walks in just 1.1 innings of work on the mound.
Tech will return to Cookeville this weekend to host their second conference series of the 2011 season against the Redhawks of Southeast Missouri, starting with a double-header event on Saturday. The firs pitch of game one is slated for 1 p.m.
