THE OPPOSITION

Manhattan (2019 Record: 2-4 | Series Record: First Meeting)

The Jaspers enter the Chattanooga Classic with a 2-4 record so far this season. Manhattan participated in the RMU Sheraton Invitational to open their season, falling in all three matches to Robert Morris, McNeese State, and Elon. However, the Jaspers bounced back this past weekend to earn their first two victories of the season in a 3-0 sweep of Delaware State and a 3-1 victory over Lafayette, before falling 3-0 against host LeHigh to close out the Crosstown Tournament.

Manhattan is led by Lizzi Brown with 47 kills on the season and hitting .119. Holding down the back row for the Jaspers is Katelynn Riner with 48 digs, while Erin Hoener leads up front for Manhattan with 26 blocks over the six contests.

The Golden Eagles will take on the Jaspers in their first-ever meeting as they open up the Chattanooga Classic on Friday.

Chattanooga (2019 Record: 2-5 | Series Record: 28-9)

The Mocs have lost their last four contests after opening the season on a 2-1 mark. Chattanooga took a 3-1 loss against Mississippi State before earning their two victories on the season in a pair of sweeps over Western Illinois and Mississippi Valley State during the StarkVegas Classic. The Mocs then lost a four-set clash against Tennessee State in Nashville, before heading to Troy, Ala. and dropping matches to Murray State, Troy, and Jacksonville.

Dani Szczepanski leads the Mocs offensively with a team-high 63 kills and hitting .315 on the season. Defensively, Megan Kaufman holds down the back line for Chattanooga with a team-leading 92 digs, while Szczepanski has also controlled the net for the Mocs with 18 digs on the season.

After a five-set thriller against North Alabama during the 2018 season, Chattanooga is the current reining Chattanooga Classic champion. The Golden Eagles hold a 28-9 record against the Mocs dating back to 1977.

North Alabama (2019 Record: 1-5 | Series Record: 4-1)

North Alabama enters their second full season competing at the NCAA DI level in 2019. The Lions opened their season with a four-set victory over fellow OVC member, Belmont, but are currently looking for their second win of the season following a five-game skid.

Alyssa Dutton led the Lions in kills on the season with 58, hitting .136. Mackenzie Sullivan has collected a team-high 73 digs on the season, while Maggie Sullivan leads the Lions at the net with 14 blocks.

The Lions are making their second-straight appearance in the Chattanooga Classic, having finished as the tournament runner-up in 2018 following a five-set battle against host Chattanooga. Tech holds a 4-1 series advantage over the Lions heading into this weekend's competition.
