Golden Eagles host Jacksonville State for midweek tilt Wednesday

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech volleyball will close out their three-game homestand tomorrow as they host the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State for a midweek tilt at 7 p.m. at the Hooper Eblen Center.

Wednesday's match will mark the second game of the 2019 season between the Gamecocks and the Golden Eagles. Tech opened conference play this season on the road against Jacksonville State, falling in straight sets to the Gamecocks.

The Golden Eagles (10-13, 6-4 OVC) went 1-1 this past weekend, earning a huge four-set victory over Austin Peay on Friday, before falling in a four-set battle against Murray State.

TEAM NOTES

  • Verzani was an offensive juggernaut for the Golden Eagles this weekend, recording 36 kills over the two-game span.
  • Verzani opened the weekend with 21 kills, 10 digs, five blocks, an assist, and a service ace against Austin Peay. She then closed out the weekend with 15 kills, 12 digs, two assists, two service aces, and a block against the Racers.
  • She collected a pair of double-doubles as she added 22 digs to her 36 kills over the weekend, marking her 12th and 13th double-doubles of the season.
  • Hand helped lead the Golden Eagles to a .211 hitting performance and dishing out 90 assists across their two contests this weekend. Hand recorded 49 assists, nine digs, four kills, and three blocks against the Governors. She then closed out the weekend with 41 assists, 10 digs, four kills, four blocks, and a service ace against Murray State.
  • Hand's 41-assist, 10-dig performance against the Racers marked her 11th double-double of the season.
  • Dorsey dominated the net this weekend for the Golden Eagles, earning 10 blocks over the Golden Eagles pair of contests. She tied a career-high nine blocks and added two digs against Austin Peay, before adding another two digs and a block against the Racers.
  • Skrabak anchored the Golden Eagles back row this past weekend, tallying 37 digs over the two contests. She opened the weekend with 15 digs in Tech's win over Austin Peay, before following that up with a 22-dig performance against Murray State.

SCOUTING THE GAMECOCKS
(2019 Record: 14-8, 8-2 OVC | Series Record 11-25)

Jacksonville State is 14-8 overall and tied for first in the OVC with a conference-leading 8-2 record. The Gamecocks are currently riding a three-game winning streak with a pair of sweeps over Eastern Illinois and a four-set victory over Murray State.

Leading the way offensively for the Gamecocks is Lena Kindermann, who is averaging 3.76 kills per set and has collected 293 in total on the season. Lexie Libs has been JSU's primary setter this season, recording 871 assists on the season and helping lead the Gamecocks to a .240 hitting percentage this season. Four Gamecocks have recorded triple-digit digs so far this season with Erin Carmichael leading the way with 290. At the net, Kaylee Frear has led JSU this season with a team-leading 67 blocks.

Jacksonville State leads the all-time series against the Golden Eagles, 11-25. JSU has won seven in a row over Tech since the start of the 2016 season. The Golden Eagles' last victory over the Gamecocks came in their second contest of the 2015 season, which the Golden Eagles won in a four-set affair.

Following Wednesday's contest, the Golden Eagles will hit the road their last regular-season road trip as they travel to UT Martin on Saturday, November 2, Morehead State on Friday, November 8, and Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, November 9.
