Keck, Miller post personal-best times as OVC Championship wraps up


CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Junior Kelli Keck and senior Beth Miller each achieved personal best marks Saturday on the final day of the Ohio Valley Conference Track & Field Outdoor Championships. Tennessee Tech finished in 11th place, while host Eastern Illinois won both the men's and women's titles.

Keck, who hails from Crossville, Tenn., placed 19th overall in the long jump, leaping 17 feet, one inch to top her previous career-best in the event. Freshman Chelsea Mills placed 25th in the long jump with a mark of 16 feet, three inches.

Keck and Mills had a good personal battle in the triple jump. Keck placed 14th with amark of 35 feet, one inch, while Mills was 16th at 34 feet, nine inches.

Miller, meanwhile, had a personal-best in the final race of her Golden Eagle career. The senior from Watertown, Wis., finished in 24th place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:00.91. She was actually the second Tech finisher in the event. Rebecca Cline, a junior from Spring Hill, Tenn., led a troupe of four Golden Eagle runners in the race, placing 19th overall with a time of 18:45.71. Junior Peri Winborne was 25th in 19:13.13, while junior Yeshi Dohrmann finished 29th in 20:12.18.

The highest individual finish of the day for Tech came in the shot put, where senior Madison Borden placed 13th with a toss of 37 feet, five inches. Haley Wennerstrom, a senior from Chattanooga, Tenn., had a 14th place finish in the javelin with a throw of 80 feet, 10 inches.

Landry Loving, a freshman from Johnson City, Tenn., placed 25th in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:24.77.

Tech's 4x100 relay team didn't complete the race, while the 4x400 relay group placed 10th with a time of 4:12.88. That foursome included Dalis Connell, Brittany Cotto, Tiara Hymon and Brooklyn Kimball.

Eastern Illinois walked away with the women's title with 145.5 points, while Murray State climbed into second with a strong showing Saturday, finishing with 124 points. Southeast Missouri (115) was third, followed by SIU Edwardsville (99), Tennessee State (92), Eastern Kentucky (63), Jacksonville State (55), Austin Peay (44.5), Belmont (30), Morehead State (8) and Tech (3).
