Lowery tops school mark in pole vault, four career-bests beaten at APSU


CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Seniors Katie Lowery and Madison Borden put up the highlight performances for the Tennessee Tech track & field team Tuesday afternoon at the Battle on the Cumberland meet, hosted by Austin Peay. Lowery cleared a school record in the pole vault and Borden had a personal-best in the discus, one of four PR marks by the Golden Eagles.

Lowery managed a vault of 10 feet, seven inches to shatter her own school record in the pole vault, beating the standard by three inches to finish second in the event.

In the discus, Borden had a toss of 138 feet, six inches to beat her previous best mark by five inches, placing her third in the event. Lasy Yslas was fourth with a throw of 128 feet, four inches.

Borden also had Tech's top effort in the shot put at 38 feet, five inches, to place thid. Margarett Holder was sixth with a best of 34 feet, nine inches.

Kelli Keck also managed a career-best effort Tuesday, leaping 16 feet, 11 inches in the long jump to place fifth. Chelsea Mills was sixth with a mark of 16 feet, four inches.

The other personal-best came in the 1,500-meter run where Rebecca Cline finished in 4:56.7 to place fifth. It beat her previous best by seven seconds. Landry Loving was 10th in the time of 5:19.4, while Kendale Caldwell (right in photo) placed 13th in 5:32.7.

Dalis Connell (left in photo) placed ninth in the 800-meter run in the time of 2:31.6, while Caldwell was 13th in 2:49.5. The 300-meter run, an event never run by the Golden Eagles, saw freshman Tiara Hymon finish highest among three Tech runners entered. She was sixth in 41.6 seconds. Brittany Cotto placed 12th in 43.8 seconds, while Brooklyn Kimball finished 17th in 45.1 seconds.

In the 200-meter dash, Mills placed sixth in 27 seconds. Keck was ninth in 27.2 seconds. Cotto 12th in 27.6, Kimball 13th in 27.8, and Hymon 14th in 28.6 seconds.

The APSU meet was the team's final outing before the OVC Outdoor Championships, May 3-4, at Eastern Illinois.
