COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Dead fish, snakes, bugs...not too mention several mud pools were just a few obstacles that the Tennessee Tech softball team faced Saturday at the Habitat for Humanity Mud Run.

Hundreds of participants gathered at Cane Creek Park for the Upper Cumberland's First Mud Run. The 5k race featured 17 obstacles including a wall climb and rappel station, slip 'n slide, swim station, and, of course, mud pits. The race drew children as young as 13 and several Tech alums, as well as Atheltic Performance staff members. Racers "ran in the mud, and the blood and the sun!"

The softball team divided up into five different teams, each given their own starting time. The teams dressed in various costumes, and couldn't be missed in their neon apparel, even after being covered in mud. There was a rumor that head coach Tory Acheson would be racing, but it proved to be just an optimistic rumor.

"This is a great opportunity for the girls to bond. It's a fun team-building activity, and definietly something they'll talk about for quite some time," a dry Acheson said. 

After all the fun in the mud, the team stuck around Cane Creek Park and volunteered their time in the clean up effort. After hundreds of muddy racers finished the race, the team was in charge of tearing down, and trying to restore the park it's usual beauty.
