Softball drops twinbill at Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Tech softball team combined for 21 hits, and eight runs but fell short in both ends of a twinbill against Lipscomb Wednesday evening. Tech lost the first contest 6-5 despite a a two-run comeback in the top of the sixth. In the second game, the Golden Eagles dropped a 6-3 decision.

Tech ran out of time in the first game scoring two runs in the seventh, with three runners on-base before its rally was cut short by the Bisons. Madison Taylor reached on a fielders choice and scored on a single by Brittney Spalding. Spalding later scored, but her sister Chanelle Spalding, Chelsea Burgess and Cortney Fry were left in position to take the lead, but couldn't make it home.

The second game proved to be much like the first. Tech's bats pulled momentum from the rally, but it wasn't enough. Brittney Spalding knocked her second homerun of the season to score Tech's final run of the day in the third inning.

Senior Melody Christian swung .625 in the double header, collecting five hits in her eight at bats. Two of Burgess' three hits were extra base and Brittney Spalding recorded a team high four RBIs.

The Golden Eagles host their home and conference opener Saturday in a double header against Murray State. Tech will remain at home Sunday for a double header against Austin Peay. The first pitch will be thrown at noon CDT both days.
