Tech dealt two tough losses in final day of KSU Classic

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- The Tennessee Tech softball team finished the KSU Classic with two tough losses Sunday to Ball State and host Kennesaw State.  The Golden Eagles dropped a 10-0 decision against Ball State in five innings and a 3-0 loss to KSU.

The Golden Eagles dropped their first game of the day, 10-0 in five innings, to MAC opponent Ball State. It was Ball State's first tournament of the season, and the Cardinals held an undefeated record through the match-up with Tech.

Ball State threw a one hitter, striking out six Golden Eagles, and allowing just two runners on base.

The Purple and Gold rotated through three pitchers, with senior Claudia Harke (1-2) taking the loss. Ball State opened the contest with Tech error followed by a homerun, and the Golden Eagles never recovered.

Tech held Ball State to three runs until the fourth inning when Ball State scored three runs off of two hits and one Tech error. The Golden Eagles gave up three more runs in the fifth, ending the game 10-0.

Taylor Ketchum (3-1) took her first loss of the season against host Kennesaw State. The Golden Eagles faced a tough undefeated pitcher Amanda Henderson. Henderson notched nine strikeouts, and gave up just five hits to the Golden Eagles. Tech had two runners in scoring position in the top of the third, but Henderson got the best of the Golden Eagles batters, striking out two.

Freshman Madison Taylor led the Golden Eagles with two hits against KSU, with seniors Melody Christian, Chanelle Spalding and junior Kayla Floyd each adding one.

The Golde Eagles remain on the road next weekend, traveling closer to home at the Frost Classic in Chattanooga.
