Golden Eagles edged by Memphis in final non-conference contest of spring

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team sealed the deal on its non-conference campaign with a 4-0 loss at Memphis in Sunday's in-state clash from the Leftwich Tennis Center.

The Golden Eagles (1-9) were upended in all three completed singles bouts with straight-set losses in the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 tangles. Oliver Dao fell 6-4, 6-2 to Pablo Alemany in the No. 2 slot, while Lucas Btizer was tripped up 6-0, 6-4 by Sam Reeve in the No. 4 get-together and Darek Kuczynski was knocked off 6-2, 6-0 to Luis Carvalho in the No. 5 position.

Alex Alvarez and Murilo Burckhardt managed set victories in their respective battles, with Alvarez claiming a 6-1 victory in the first set against Conor Gannon in the No. 1 spot and Burckhardt earning a 6-2 win in the second set against Mortiz Kudernatcsh in the No. 3 meeting. Both matchups went unfinished in the third set.

Ricard Garavi Yepez's duel with Alejandro Vizoso also went unfinished after Vizoso earned a 6-2 nod in the opening set before Garavi Yepez led 5-4 in the second at the time the tussle was called.

The Tigers (12-8) opened the match by capturing the doubles point en route to the club's fifth-straight win. Conor Gannon and Sam Reeve topped Lucas Bizter and Elia Lauper 6-2 in the top spot, while Pablo Alemany and Luis Carvalho notched a 6-3 victory against Oliver Dao and Lukas Krause in the No. 3 affair.

The No. 2 tangle pitting Alex Alvarez and Murilo Burckhardt against Harry Rock and Moritz Kudernatcsh did not finish with Rock and Kudernatcsh leading 5-3 at the time of its conclusion.

The Golden Eagles will now set their sights on Horizon League action with the conference opener set for Saturday, Mar. 23 at Tennessee State. First serve in Nashville is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
