KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech men's tennis team had a tough day to start the 2025 slate as No. 4 Wake Forest swept through the matchup on Sunday.
The match had been delayed from Saturday after the wintry weather swept through the South.
Wake Forest won the doubles point as the duo of Franco Capalbo and Martin Mazev claimed a 6-2 win over Alex Alvarez and Murilo Burckhardt at the No. 2 pairing, while Luca Pow and Luciano Tacchi beat Oliver Dao and Lucas Bitzer at No. 1 doubles by a 6-2 score.
The matchup between Nikola Parichkov and Ioannis Xilas against Tech's Davids Spaks and Darek Kuczynski was tied at 3-3 when the Demon Deacons claimed the doubles point.
Moving on to singles, Xilas defeated Alvarez at No. 1 with a pair of 6-1 sets, while Pow won at No. 2 over Burckhardt with a 6-1, 6-2 decision. At No. 3, Tacchi beat Dao 6-3, 6-2, then Capalbo topped Bitzer with two 6-1 sets at No. 4.
Kuczynski fell to Dylan Chang 6-3 and 6-2 at No. 6. The five-matchup between Harry Thursfield and Davids Sparks went unfinished.
The Golden Eagles continue their action against Tennessee at 9 a.m. on Monday.
