WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Tennessee Tech freshman Guille Nicoolas rolled through the Flight D singles draw to capture the championship, highlighting play for the Golden Eagle tennis team over the weekend at the Purdue Invitational.
Nicolas, a newcomer to the Golden Eagle roster from Madrid, Spain, won all four of his matches to win the title, and all four Tech players posted at least one win during weekend play.
Nicolas opened the tournament with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Andrea Morlet of Indianapolis University on Friday. He followed with a straight set, 6-4, 6-1 win over Andrew Connolly of Wright State, then advanced to the flight's championship match with a 6-4, 7-6 (3) win over Mason Dragos of Butler.
He claimed the title with exactly the same scores over Simon Jayaram of Dayton to finish 4-0.
