COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team sets its sights on a busy weekend as the Golden Eagles trek to North Carolina for a pair of matches in Winston-Salem. Tech (2-3) will square off with Radford, Saturday at noon, before locking arms with No. 7 Wake Forest, Sunday at 4 p.m. CT. Both matches will be played at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.

The Golden Eagles are coming off a tight knit affair at the University of Tennessee on Feb. 27, falling 4-3 to the Vols in a match that saw the top of the TTU lineup flourish. Tech seized singles victories in three of the top four singles spots, with sophomore Eduardo Mena boasting a win against No. 125 Luis Valero in the top position, senior Alex Arovin claiming a nod in the No. 2 spot over Jack Schipanski, and freshman Guillermo Nicolas securing a victory in the No. 4 slot over Srdjan Jakoljevic.

With the win, Mena continues a red-hot start that pushes the OVC's preseason No. 1 ranked player to a perfect 5-0 in singles play. Guillermo Nicolas is right on Mena's heels atop the Tech ranks with a 4-1 mark in singles action this spring.

Radford heads into Saturday's tilt with TTU having played just two matches this spring and have not hit the courts since the beginning of February. The Highlanders (0-2) were upended, 7-0, by William & Mary on Feb. 5, before being tripped up, 5-0, to VCU on Feb. 6.

Tech has never beaten Radford in the club's all-time series as the Golden Eagles are winless in four previous opportunities.

As far as Wake Forest (12-3) is concerned, the No. 7 ranked team in the country is 8-1 at home and has checked the win column in three-straight matches. A quartet of Demon Deacons have posted at least nine singles' wins in 2016, highlighted by senior Romain Bogaerts, who is 10-2 thus far.

TTU has split its previous two matches against Wake Forest, however the two squads have not squared off since 1986.

Before the Demon Deacons clash with Tech, Wake Forest will hook up with Georgia Tech on Friday and North Carolina State on Sunday at noon.
