Former Golden Eagle Scott Stallings shoots 2-under to open Masters

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- With a first-round 70, former Tennessee Tech golfer Scott Stallings sits in a tie for ninth place at the prestigious Masters Tournament at Augusta National.

Stallings is tied with the likes of Jim Furyk and former Masters champions Vijay Singh, and Zach Johnson. His score of 70 bested legendary players such as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Fred Couples.

Scott is slated to tee off his second round Friday at 10:02 EDT and will be paired with Thomas Bjorn of Denmark and Rory Sabbatini of South Africa.

Stallings is one of 15 rookies in the field of 99 players aiming for the 2012 Masters championship and the right to wear the famous green jacket. He qualified for the Masters by capturing the championship at the 2011 Greenbrier Classic.

A native of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Stallings was one of the most decorated players in Tennessee Tech and Ohio Valley Conference golf history during his playing career from 2002 to 2006.
