Cassetty finishes fourth, leads Tech to fourth-place finish at Skyhawk Classic

Griffin leads Golden Eagles in final round, ties career-best round

BUCHANAN, Tenn. — Tyler Cassetty finished two-under par and took fourth place at the Skyhawk Classic on Tuesday, leading Tennessee Tech to a fourth-place team finish in a field of 14 squad at Paris Landing State Park.

Cassetty, a senior from Whitleyville, Tenn., shot a final round 75 to go with a first-round 71 and second-round 68 and finish with a combined score of 214. He finished three strokes off of second place and five strokes out of first.

Though Cassetty's second round was the best of his tournament, the Golden Eagles collectively saved their best day of golf for the last, shooting a 289 to move up from their fifth-place standing after two rounds of play. Three Tech golfers shot par or below on Tuesday.

Mason Griffin tied his career-low round of 70 to post the lowest final round score of any Tech player. Griffin shot a first-round 77 and a second-round 79 to net a total score of 226. Greg Kitts was the second Golden Eagle finisher overall behind Cassetty, shooting a 74-72-72=218.

Travis Ramsey finished with 76-81-72=229 while Taylor Diegel shot 74-76-80=230. Lee Maxwell played the tournament as an individual and posted a 77-73-78=228.

Southern Illinois captured the title with a 286-286-288=860, winning by 14 strokes over second-place Jackson State, which came in at 874. Tennessee-Martin, the host squad, shot 876 to place third while Tech came in fourth at 879 and Murray State rounded out the top five with 882.

The rest of the field consisted of John A. Logan CC (888), Lipscomb (891), Union University (894), Alabama State (908), Trevecca Nazarene (909), Bethel College (913), Christian Brothers (913), Tennessee-Martin B (918) and Bethel College B (1010).

The Golden Eagles return to action next week, playing their final tournament of the fall season at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate.
