JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -- Despite rainy conditions for their
practice round Sunday, perfect weather is expected to greet the
Tennessee Tech men's golf team Monday morning when they step onto
the tees at Silver Lakes Golf Course to play the first 36 holes in
the Grub Mart Invitational.
More than a dozen teams are expected to compete for the title in
the 54-hole tournament being hosted by Jacksonville State
University.
Austin Peay is the defending tourney champion after jumping past
three schools on the final day to win the crown in 2009. Tech
overcame a slow start last year with improved scores Tuesday before
placing 13th.
Coach Craig King's lineup will feature five seniors plus junior
Travis Ramsey. Playing in Tech's five-man lineup will be seniors
Wes Korth, Josh Simer, Jake Heatherly, Blake Garrison and Ramsey.
Senior Preston Marshall (shown in photo at right) will compete as
an individual.
Simer has been Tech's leader this season, averaging 72.7 with two
top five and all-tournament honors and four finishes in the top 10.
In Tech's JSU lineup, Wes Korth and Jake Heatherly carry the team's
next lowest averages and each has one top 10 finish this season.
Korth is averaging 75.0 while Heatherly's 2009-10 average is 76.2.
Results will be posted each day on TTU sports.com.
