CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. --Senior Josh Simer carded a three-under 69
during the second round of play Monday at the F&M Bank APSU
Intercollegiate, lifting him into a tie for fourth place and
helping Tennessee Tech close the first day in a tie for eighth
place among the 19 teams in the field.
Towson University (575) holds a one-shot lead over Eastern Kentucky
and Oakland after 36 holes in the tourney being played at The Links
at Novadell. Final-round play begins with a shotgun start Tuesday
at 9 a.m.
Tech opened play Monday with a 297 team total, then chopped six
strokes off that score in the second round with a 291, leaving
coach Craig King's team with a 588 total. That puts the Golden
Eagles in a tie with Eastern Illinois, in a field which includes
nine Ohio Valley Conference teams.
Simer is tied for fourth after rounds of 72 and 69, giving him a
141 total. Jared Dunn is next for the Golden Eagles, ending the day
in a tie for 17th place with 75-70--145. The balance of Tech's
lineup includes Wesley Korth (31st/147), Jake Heatherly (77th/155)
and Preston Marshall (88th/161).
Tech has two additional players in the field, but their scores
Monday can't help the team since they are entered as individuals.
Senior Blake Garrison also posted a 69 in the second round
following an opening round 74, and is tied for eighth place at 143,
tops among the individuals in the field. Travis Ramsey is tied for
72nd place with a 77-77--154.
