Former Golden Eagle Stallings qualifies for 2010 Nationwide Tour

Missed PGA Tour card by just one stroke at Q School

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Former Tennessee Tech golfer Scott Stallings will become a familiar face in professional golf in 2010 as he competes around the world on the Nationwide Tour.

Stallings recently earned full exempt status for the tour and is now qualified to compete in all of the tour events beginning in January in Australia.

Stallings competed during the past week at the Final Stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla. He was among the field of 152 golfers at Q School who played six rounds (108 holes) at the Links Course and the Lake Course. The field included past PGA Tour winners such as Jeff Maggert, David Duval and Tim Herron.

The final three days of the competition was televised nationally on The Golf Channel.

Stalling fired an eight-under-par, narrowly missing qualifying for his PGA Tour card by a single stroke, with the cut coming at nine-under-par. The Top 25 players earned their PGA Tour card for 2010.

Stallings was among the group of 50 who were the next highest finishers, earning full exempt status for the Nationwide Tour for 2010. If he finishes in the Top 25 on the Nationwide Tour money list for 2010, he will earn his PGA Tour card for 2011.

Stallings wrapped up the most successful golf career in Golden Eagle history with a flourish in 2007, capping things off by being named the TTU Outstanding Male Athlete for the second straight year.

He was the recipient of the President's Award for men's golf after earning Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year honors for the second consecutive year. He was named first-team all-conference, and shot his way to a spot in the all-tournament team at the OVC Championships with a second-place tie.

He earned eight all-tournament awards in 2006-07, including the OVC Tournament Championship, claiming medalist honors in three tournaments as a senior.

As a junior, Stallings qualified for the NCAA Regional tournament in Orlando, Fla. and then qualified for the NCAA National Championships where he finished 23rd overall. He named honorable mention All-American by Golfweek.com and being ranked 84th in the nation.

He graduated with the school record for most all-tournament finishes (19) and most medalist honors (7).

Former Golden Eagle coach, the late Bobby Nichols, had high praise for Stallings at the conclusion of his Tech playing career. In 2007, Nichols said, "I think he's going to be successful on the PGA Tour. He has all the talent and he's a hard worker. His future is very, very bright. I appreciate what he did for the Tennessee Tech golf program. I enjoyed having him here. I believe he enjoyed being at Tennessee Tech. We are going to miss him."
