Missed PGA Tour card by just one stroke at Q
School
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Former Tennessee Tech golfer Scott
Stallings will become a familiar face in professional golf in 2010
as he competes around the world on the Nationwide Tour.
Stallings recently earned full exempt status for the tour and is
now qualified to compete in all of the tour events beginning in
January in Australia.
Stallings competed during the past week at the Final Stage of PGA
Tour Qualifying School at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm
Beach, Fla. He was among the field of 152 golfers at Q School who
played six rounds (108 holes) at the Links Course and the Lake
Course. The field included past PGA Tour winners such as Jeff
Maggert, David Duval and Tim Herron.
The final three days of the competition was televised nationally
on The Golf Channel.
Stalling fired an eight-under-par, narrowly missing qualifying for
his PGA Tour card by a single stroke, with the cut coming at
nine-under-par. The Top 25 players earned their PGA Tour card for
2010.
Stallings was among the group of 50 who were the next highest
finishers, earning full exempt status for the Nationwide Tour for
2010. If he finishes in the Top 25 on the Nationwide Tour money
list for 2010, he will earn his PGA Tour card for 2011.
Stallings wrapped up the most successful golf career in Golden
Eagle history with a flourish in 2007, capping things off by being
named the TTU Outstanding Male Athlete for the second straight
year.
He was the recipient of the President's Award for men's golf after
earning Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year honors for the
second consecutive year. He was named first-team all-conference,
and shot his way to a spot in the all-tournament team at the OVC
Championships with a second-place tie.
He earned eight all-tournament awards in 2006-07, including the
OVC Tournament Championship, claiming medalist honors in three
tournaments as a senior.
As a junior, Stallings qualified for the NCAA Regional tournament
in Orlando, Fla. and then qualified for the NCAA National
Championships where he finished 23rd overall. He named honorable
mention All-American by Golfweek.com and being ranked 84th in the
nation.
He graduated with the school record for most all-tournament
finishes (19) and most medalist honors (7).
Former Golden Eagle coach, the late Bobby Nichols, had high praise
for Stallings at the conclusion of his Tech playing career. In
2007, Nichols said, "I think he's going to be successful on the PGA
Tour. He has all the talent and he's a hard worker. His future is
very, very bright. I appreciate what he did for the Tennessee Tech
golf program. I enjoyed having him here. I believe he enjoyed being
at Tennessee Tech. We are going to miss him."
