BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the first time in his young career, Tennessee Tech men's basketball rookie Kyle Layton was honored as the Ohio Valley Conference's Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league Monday morning. Layton shared the honor with Little Rock's Jaylen Crocker-Johnson.

Layton was second on the Golden Eagle squad in scoring for the regular season's final week of ball games, averaging 12.0 points and 4.0 rebounds for the purple and gold in a pair of road tilts at UT Martin and Little Rock. He hit four triples and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.

Squaring off with one of three OVC regular-season champions in the Skyhawks on Thursday, the guard delivered 10 points with a pair of makes from distance in just under 35 minutes of action. He hauled in a career-high five rebounds in the match-up while finishing 4-for-4 at the line.

Taking on another OVC champ and the league's No. 1 seed heading into the conference tournament in Evansville at Little Rock, Layton tied his career-high scoring output with 14 points to go along with three boards. He dished out a pair of assists, created two steals, and hit two more treys to end his first season in the purple and gold.
