COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Bailey Fisher can score touchdowns, and before the 2019 season is complete, the sophomore quarterback has his name in the Tennessee Tech record books for doing just that.
With his third passing touchdown of the contest during the Golden Eagles' 58-21 loss to Austin Peay on Saturday, the Clayton, Ga., product scored his 24th combined touchdown of the season – 16 passing and eight rushing. The record was previously held by Tre Lamb -- currently the team's offensive coordinator -- with 23 in 2011.
With four games remaining in the campaign, including this weekend's game at Murray State, Fisher has an opportunity to put a significant contribution onto his record.
The Tech career record stands at 57, set by Lee Sweeney between 2006 and 2009. Fisher has 37 -- 27 passing, 10 rushing.
In Tech career passing, the sophomore stands in seventh place at 3,586 yards, just 13 yards away from tying Tony Constantine (1980-84) for sixth place. In total offense, Fisher has 4,171 yards and stands in eighth, nine yards behind Gary Perdue (4,180, 1973-76), 233 behind Darian Stone (4,404, 2011-14) and 250 behind legendary Tech running back Larry Schreiber (4,421, 1966-69) – all of those potentially in reach in the next couple of weeks, should Fisher continue his pace.
As the season starts its final third, Fisher has 1,905 yards on 159-of-262 passing, while also rushing for 239 yards on 99 carries.
The Golden Eagles kick off this Saturday at 1 p.m. from Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray, Ky.
