CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri put two scores on the board quickly and that turned out to be all the homestanding Redhawks needed on Saturday afternoon, beating Tennessee Tech 31-3 at Houck Field.
With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 0-7, 0-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference play.
Eric Williams caught a nine-yard touchdown strike from Jesse Hosket to cap off a four-play, 50-yard drive, then after a fumble at the Tech 6, SEMO scored again as Hosket threw to Trevon Billington for a four-yard score.
Before the quarter was over, the Redhawks added a field goal as Nicolas Litang hit a 22-yarder to make it 17-0 after one quarter of play.
Just before halftime, Nick Madonia put on what was Tech's only points of the contest with a 37-yard field goal.
In the fourth quarter, Hosket threw his third touchdown pass of the day, connecting on a 47-yard strike to Kristian Wilkerson. SEMO finished off its scoring minutes later as Cameron Sanders scored on a 70-yard run.
SEMO collected 334 yards of offense on 61 plays to Tech's 195 yards on 70 plays. The Golden Eagles rushed for 100 yards on 42 carries, led by Yeedee Thaenrat with 55 yards on 11 carries and Andrew Goldsmith with 53 yards on 15 totes.
Sanders led SEMO's rushing attack of 173 yards on 34 carries as he had 105 on seven attempts.
Adam Browner, starting in the place on Andre Sale, threw for 95 yards on 9-of-27 passing. His SEMO counterpart, Hosket, threw for 161 yards on 13-of-27 passing.
Dontez Byrd caught four passes for 44 yards, while SEMO's Wilkerson caught seven for 109.
The Golden Eagles are idle next week and will return to action on October 28 as they host Tennessee State.
