Golden Eagles enter second week of spring drills

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – With a week of spring practice in the books, the Tennessee Tech football team isn't showing any signs of slowing down.

The Golden Eagles continued its drills Tuesday morning, the fifth session out of 15 scheduled practices. Tech continues spring practice on Friday with a three-day weekend session.

"We've still got a ways to go," said Tech assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Tyree Foreman, "but I think we're further along than we were last spring. With their knowledge and being in the system for a year, the guys are that much further ahead. So far it's looking pretty good."

Foreman moved into the offensive coordinator position after the departure of Justin Rascati, who took a position at Chattanooga, and the offense hasn't missed a beat as the Golden Eagles are adapting more of head coach Marcus Satterfield's philosophies.

And Foreman has goals for the offensive players to meet.

"I want to make sure we get the terminology down this spring," he said. "I want to make sure that they know what they're going to do and who we're going to be."

There's also some subtle differences to teach.

"The techniques are pretty much the same we've been doing," Foreman said, "but the terminology is what's changed. We know how to line up and run the route, but now we have to know what that route is with the terminology. I think that's been going pretty well. We've done a great job with that so far and the kids seem to be picking it up."

Now with week two under way, what's the goals?

"The second week is about expanding our knowledge," Foreman said. "We have a new install going in, new plays going in. We have some situations to work on, like red zones and third downs, so we have a different menu of plays to go to and make sure they understand the concepts we're trying to get done."

Practice continues through March 2 before taking a hiatus for spring break, then resumes on March 14 and concludes on March 23.
