BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech outfielder Jackson Green was recognized as the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for the first time in his career, as announced by the league Monday morning. He shared the honor with SIUE's Daniel Gierer.
Green put on a display for the ages for the Golden Eagles in his final regular season weekend of collegiate ball, batting .588 over four games with four home runs, three doubles, 10 runs, and 12 RBI. He turned in a 3-for-3 showing on stolen bases, a .667 on-base percentage, and a ridiculous 1.471 slugging percentage.
The senior opened the week 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI against Middle Tennessee. In game two against Morehead State, Green turned in the top performance of his career, finishing 5-for-5 with two walks, two home runs, two doubles, five runs scored, and a whopping eight RBI. The eight RBI tied for the third most in a single game in program history.
He followed it up with a 4-for-6 day at the dish on Saturday, scoring five more runs while smashing two more round-trippers, another double, and driving in three more runs.
The outfielder represents one of six different Golden Eagles to take home weekly recognition from the league this season. Senior starter Jared Herzog took home OVC Pitcher of the Week honors on May 5, while reliever Reece McDuffie shared Pitcher of the Week accolades on Apr. 28 with Lindenwood's Josh Newell. The four previous Player of the Week honors were taken home by catcher Mack Whitcomb back on Feb. 17 and on May 12, center fielder Nicho Jordan on Mar. 24, and second baseman Eddie Garza on Apr. 14.
The Golden Eagles will represent the No. 3 seed at next week's OVC Championships presented by SERVPRO at Mtn Dew Park in Marion, Ill. Tech will compete on Wednesday, May 21, with a 7:30 p.m. CT tilt against the winner between No. 6 Lindenwood and No. 7 UT Martin earlier in the day. The contest will be single elimination, with the loser headed home and the winner advancing to the double-elimination portion of the tournament.
Tickets are priced at $30 for All-Session and for a single day they are $10 for adults, $5 for children, and $5 for college students with ID. Tickets can be purchased at OVCSports.com.
