Randolph shoots 76 to pace Golden Eagles

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The final round of the Chris Banister Gamecock Golf Classic was rained out Tuesday, leaving Tennessee Tech with a sixth place finish out of eight teams in its first tournament of the 2011 fall season.

The Jacksonville State-hosted event began with 18 holes on Sunday but was cut short by rainouts on both Monday and Tuesday.

Amanda Randolph paced the Golden Eagles and finished in a tie for 12^th overall, shooting a 76. Randolph, a junior from Cookeville, Tenn., shot a front-nine 37 and finished with a 39 on the back nine.

Katherine Bell followed Randolph for the Golden Eagles, shooting a 79. Brandy Van Etten shot 81, Katy Beth Glover shot 84 and Amber Shepherd shot 90 to round out the Tech's top five. Maddi Everts played the tournament as an individual and shot 88.

Samford won the event, shooting a team 294, while Jacksonville State (302) placed second, Lamar (303) placed third, Mercer (307) was fourth, Memphis (310) was fifth, and Tennessee Tech (320) finished sixth.

Memphis' Marissa Steen took medalist honors, shooting a 70.

The Golden Eagles return to action at the Drake Creek Invitational in Ledbetter, Ky., on Sept. 12-13. The event is hosted by Murray State.
