VanEtten leads way with 79, 82

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Tennessee Tech’s women’s golf team moved up two spots from ninth to seventh place in the second and final round of the UAB Fall Beach Blast on Tuesday, wrapping up their fall season.

The Golden Eagles were originally listed at 340 after Monday’s opening round, but actually shot 333 after Amanda Randolph’s score was substituted for that of Maddi Everts, who withdrew from the tournament. Randolph was originally playing as an individual.

Tech again posted a 333 on Tuesday for a final score of 666, finishing in seventh out of 11 teams in the tournament, which was held at Peninsula Golf Club.

Brandy VanEtten led the Golden Eagles over two rounds, shooting a first-round 79 and following it up with an 82 on Tuesday. Katherine Bell was the second-lowest Tech finisher and had the lowest second round, shooting an 80 to follow up a first-round 86. Amber Shepherd came in one stroke behind Bell, posting a 81-86=167. Amanda Randolph (87-85=172) and Katy Beth Glover (94-92=186) rounded out the Tech contingent.

Memphis claimed the championship, shooting a final-round 303 to go with Monday’s 300 for a total of 603. Southern Mississippi finished 27 strokes back of the champion Tigers in second place with a score of 630. The rest of the top five consisted of UAB at 632, Belmont at 644 and West Florida at 661. The rests of the field consisted of Texas-Pan American (665), Tennessee Tech (666), Marshall (675), South Dakota (678), North Dakota (680) and Austin Peay (681).

The individual title was captured by Memphis’ Kathleen Glavin, who shot 72 in the first round and 76 in the second for a combined 148.
