VanEtten leads Tech at UAB Fall Beach Blast

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Tennessee Tech sat in ninth place out of 11 teams after one round at the UAB Fall Beach Blast on Monday behind a 79 from Brandy VanEtten.

The event, held at The Peninsula Golf Course in Gulf Shores, Ala., is the final event of the 2011 fall season for the Golden Eagles.

With a team score of 340, Tech sits two strokes back of Marshall in eighth place and six strokes back of South Dakota in seventh place. Memphis holds the lead going into Tuesday's second and final round with a score of 300, followed by UAB in second place at 309 and Southern Miss in third at 318. The rest of the field consists of Belmont (322), West Florida (327), Texas-Pan American (331), South Dakota (334), Marshall (338), Tennessee Tech (340), Austin Peay (343) and North Dakota (350).

VanEtten's 79 leads the Golden Eagles and was good enough to put her in a tie for 13th out of 61 golfers. Amber Shepherd was the second Tech finisher at 81 while Katherine Bell shot 86. Amanda Randolph came in at 87 and Katy Beth Glover shot 94. Maddi Everts withdrew from the tournament.

The UAB Fall Beach Blast concludes with the second and final round on Tuesday. Results will be posted on TTUSports.com when they become available.
