VanEtten, Everts shoot 75, lead Tech after one round

Glover shoots career-best 74 as individual

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – Brandy VanEtten and Madalyn Everts both fired first-round 75s to lead Tennessee Tech Monday at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate at The Links at Novadell.

For both VanEtten and Everts, the score was just one stroke off their career-bests and put them in a tie for 13th place in the field of 64 golfers. Their scores lifted Tech to a team aggregate of 304 and a spot in sixth place out of 10 teams at the event, hosted by Austin Peay. The Golden Eagles are one stroke back of fifth place and 11 strokes off the pace set by first-place Murray State.

Tech also got a strong performance from Katy Beth Glover, who posted a career-best 74 in the first round and is tied for 11th place in the field of 64. Glover is playing the tournament as an individual.

With one round left to play on Tuesday, Murray State leads the field with a team score of 293. Eastern Kentucky sits three shots back at 296, while Jacksonville State is in third at 299. Austin Peay (300) and Belmont (303) round out the top five, and Tennessee Tech (304), Western Kentucky (312), Lipscomb (315), Evansville (320) and Tennessee State (335) make up the rest of the field.

Behind VanEtten and Everts, the Golden Eagles got a 76 from Katherine Bell, placing her in a tie for 21st, while Amber Shepherd shot 78 and Amanda Randolph came in at 83.

Eastern Kentucky’s Lisanne Schmidt and Austin Peay’s Holly Batey are tied for first as both posted scores of 72 in the first round. VanEtten and Everts enter Tuesday’s final round three shots off the pace set by Schmidt and Batey.

Final round play begins at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday with a shotgun start.
