COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech's women's golf team will get to play at one of the game's most storied venues this week as it takes part in the 2012 Pinehurst Spring Challenge.

After opening the spring season with a strong showing at the BSC Ann Rhoads Invitational in February, the Golden Eagles will return from a month-long break on Monday at the event, which is hosted by College of Charleston.

In their season-opening tournament, the Golden Eagles finished second in a 16-team field and were led by Brandy VanEtten, who finished 10th out of more than 80 golfers.

The tournament will be played at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C., a course which has played host to a number of prestigious tournaments over the years. Pinehurst has hosted the U.S. Open twice (1999 and 2005) as well as the U.S. Amateur (2008), the Ryder Cup (1951) and the PGA Championship (1936). The course will once again host the U.S. Open and the U.S. Women's Open in 2014.

The 2012 Pinehurst Spring Challenge will take place on course No. 6 and will begin Monday with two 18-hole rounds. Shotgun start is set for 8 a.m. CDT. A final 18-hole round will be held Tuesday with a shotgun start slated for 7:45 a.m. CDT.

The course will play to a par 72 and is 5,993 yards in length.

In addition to Tennessee Tech and host College of Charleston, the field will consist of East Carolina, Elon, Georgetown, James Madison, Marshall, Maryland, Middle Tennessee State, North Carolina State, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, Old Dominion, Penn State, Richmond, Samford and Western Michigan.
